I am currently looking towards buying one of the new GTX 1060s (when in stock) and was just wondering whether the advantages of buying GPUs with more fans are worth the difference in price in comparison. Currently I am either looking at a single/dual fan 1060 and came across:

Zotac GeForce GTX 1060 Single Fan 1280 NVIDIA CUDA Cores PCI-Express 3.0 6 GB GDDR5 8000 MHz Memory Graphics Card - Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01IA9FEOO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_DnsOxb338GXJB

And

Zotac GeForce GTX 1060 Amp Edition 1280 NVIDIA CUDA Cores PCI-Express 3.0 6 GB GDDR5 8000 MHz Memory Graphics Card - Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01I5O5AP2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_BpsOxb8GABFRA

Both are ZOTAC cards and therefore highly reputable, however the difference in price for my budget is significant. Other than better cooling, is it worth buying the dual fan over the single fan? Or is it only perhaps for looks more than anything else. What is your personal recommendation if you guys were to buy either one?

If you are willing to overclock your GPU, and receive some good temps whilst gaming, then having dual fans or even triple fans GPU would be a great option.
If you are not going to overclock your GPU, you might as well stick with a single fan, BUT temps may vary considering it only has 1 fan. Due to it having 1 fan, you will have to clean it a few times a month, because a lot of dust that will eventually get stuck on 1 fan, thus increasing temperatures on your GPU.

In my opinion, double or even triple fans on a GPU would be great option, even when you're not overclocking. But it does supply you better cooling too. If you are buying any SC or SSC gcards, then ACX 2.0 or ACX 3.0 is good, thats all you need to know :p

I'm getting a 970...

Better cooling and thus typically less noise as the fans can run slower. If those things are not a big deal to you than the single fan gpu should still work fine especially since the 1060 is a fairly low power gpu and shouldn't put off a lot of heat. If it were me I would only buy a single fan gpu if my case were too small for the other, as noise and temps are very important to me and I like to have the best cooling possible. My 390 was fairly hot and loud, so I liquid cooled it. Like I said though, it is mostly down to preference.

The single fan GPUs are known as the reference models/design. They are the design provided by NVIDIA and adopted by other manufactures (who slap their names on and resell it). Then there are non-reference GPUs which are the same GPU with custom/aftermarket heatsinks and fans put on them. The non-reference GPUs do provide better cooling for mildly overclocking your GPU and, yes, they look better to some people. They can usually give you a 5-10c difference in temps when overclocking which can be a big deal. If you plan on heavy overclocking then I would recommend water cooling the GPU.

To answer you question "is it worth it?" that just depends on you. Will you be overclocking? Do you think the non-reference cards look better or match your overall PC color scheme? If yes to either of these or both then yes I would say it is worth it. Also to mention is the non-reference cards typically have a higher clock speed out of the box which gives a performance boost.

I'm getting a 970 SSC ACX 2.0 and the temps will probably be high due to it being "SSC". But yeah, the more fans, the less the temperature is itself. :)
