I am looking for a motherboard that can overclock well and under a $100.

I looked at the MSI 970 but i want one that would go with my black/blue color scheme.

I currently have a MSI 760GMA-P34(FX) mobo

Solution
Agreed, your current components are perfectly fine for your build.
Best to save up for an entirely new rig over the next year in my opinion.
Unless you're going 1440p 144hz or are planning on getting a 1070, not worth upgrading yet.

Not worth buying another motherboard just for overclocking an AMD CPU.
If you're going to spend more money on parts I suggest an upgrade to an i5 Skylake or Kaby Lake CPU when they release.
Hell, even an i3 6100 would be a good improvement! :)
The AM3+ socket is becoming outdated and is on the way out in terms of price to performance, no point investing in an old technology.

How much would it cost for an i5 and mobo?

Is ddr4 ram a requirement or just or better performance?

performance. ddr3 would do fine imo.

Incorrect!
Skylake motherboards are designed with lower voltage in mind, and are therefore designed around DDR4 RAM which runs at a lower voltage of 1.2v compared to the 1.5v of DDR3, and a higher native frequency of 2133.
You can run DDR3L on a DDR4 motherboard, but not standard DDR3, as if you attempted this, it would burn out the memory controller over time, essentially killing your motherboard.
Don't do it! :)

Unless my gpu is being bottlenecked by my cpu that is the only reason i would upgrade, as for my motherboard I dont think would need an upgrade unless i decide to get a intel cpu, so i think i should hold off on an upgrade.
