Best open headphones used or new for under $20 bucks

I would suggest that you have a look at the Hyperx Cloud Core's, they are a closed unit but are very good value for money. They are quite well received over at Head-Fi (at least to the Takstar Pro 80's which the Cloud Core's are clones of) as well. I have a pair which I bought for AUD$65 (USD$50) but I've seen them on sale to $55 (USD$40) before. These prices are direct conversions, I don't know what the prices are like on Amazon or other stores.

Compared to the Sennheiser HD451's, they are way better in terms of comfort and sound (just in case you gave these a look) but I would assume that the HD518's would be better. I have tried the HD201's before, and although they sound close-ish to the Cloud Core's (it was a store unit so they...

Unfortunately "super cheap" and "good sound quality" don't really go together. You'll get 'ok' sound quality for cheap, or you'll get good sound quality, but headphones that will die in a short period of time.

I agree with @basroil here, just wait it out a little. Even something like HD201's will get you decent sound quality for <$50

I'm not sure where @basroil is seeing HD518's for $65, but if you could find that price, those would be a great option.

There's sales practically every other week. Sure they are normally $75 on amazon, but you can get them for much less if you look around and are lucky. Hell, black friday usually has the 598s for ~$90, at least for the last two years

They don't have as much bass as other gaming headsets but if you are going for open backs then it probably isn't a big deal. They do have a good soundstage and because the bass isn't overwhelming, makes for good positioning in competitive gaming from my experience. I wouldn't say they are studio headphones, but they are definitely something you should look at.

If you can't afford the Cloud Core's, the HD201's are also a pretty solid choice.
