I just did a new system build, and it posted on the second try (cooler radiator fan should have been plugged into the CPU_FAN connector). After some misadventures installing Creative drivers and the Windows anniversary update (still a problem), I did a non-destructive Windows 10 reset. Everything is now cool, up to a point.
So, the system boots up fine and remains stable for extended periods of operation. It's even stable under load--I played through the first level of Doom 2016 on Steam with full bells-and-whistles, and it ran like a champ.
However, it doesn't play nice when Windows 10 shuts down or restarts. In either of those two cases, the behavior is identical--Windows shuts down, but the chassis remains powered up (fans, primarily). In the case of the restart, Windows stays shut down instead of restarting. I think this is the last major issue I have to worry about before declaring the build complete, so any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.
The new build is a Frankenstein's Monster composed of refugees from my old system and new componentry. Here's the complete list:
Chassis: Antec Nine Hundred Two (old system)
Mobo: Asus Maximus VIII Hero (new)
PSU: Corsair RM 750x (new)
CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K, running stock speed at the moment (new)
Cooler: Corsair H60 (old system)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB DIMM) DDR4, 2666 Mhz (currently running at 2133 due to Q-Code 41 loop if accelerated) (new)
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC+ 2.0 (old system)
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Z (new)
SSD: Samsung 850 PRO 256 GB (old, boot drive)
Storage: a WD 500GB and a WD 2TB magnetic drive (connected to SATA 6 Gb/s ports) (old)
Optical: Asus DRW-24B1ST (new)
O/S: Windows 10 Home Premium
UPDATE: Problem persists--it's not an issue with fast restart or hibernate mode, apparently.
UPDATE: Found two YouTube videos with possible solutions, and will try that this evening: https://youtu.be/bDWtGC5VbEM and https://youtu.be/G8DCwo-8G-w.
