As the title says I recently bought a new GPU (GTX 970) since my old one (GTX 660) broke and when booting the PC my monitor, keyboard, mouse and I guess anything else connected won't turn on. Could it be because my power supply is not strong enough? (600W) or maybe something to do with the motherboard? I'm really stuck. Any help would be really appreciated, thanks!

Do you still have the box ? or did you not build the pc yourself ?

Didn't build myself, just opened my PC though and it says:
NRP-VC603 Switching Power Supply
Model number: SL-8600EPS

Also if it helps my motherboard is a Gigabyte Z77-DS3H, my CPU is an Intel i7 3770k, I have 16GB RAM and the new card is an ASUS STRIX GTX970 4GB

Out atm but will do when I'm back, also by power connectors you mean the PCI E cable right? Could you also take a look at the parts I have in a reply to another user above and let me know if it should all work together?

Yeah, either an 8 pin or a 6+2 to the PSU. A 600 watt PSU should be able to handle it and the motherboard is fine. Make sure the card is in the 16x slot (closest to the processor) of course.

Out of curiosity how did the 660 break? If it died in spectacular fashion (explosions, flames, etc) is it possible that it could have damaged the mobo, or that pcie slot? Can you boot using the onboard video? You can also try the 970 in the 4x slot to see if it works there, but it'll run slow.

Hi Gouldy. Here is your solution: Update your motherboard BIOS.

I had the exact same problem and people said it was crappy PSU. But that didn't make sense since the 970 actually consumes less wattage that my 560. So I figured it must be some software problem, hence BIOS.

Go to Gigabyte website and download the latest BIOS (update 11a "pci-e compatibility update") for Q-flash installation.
Extract it to a USB stick and have it sitting in a USB port while rebooting.
Press "END" during boot to enter Q-flash and chose to install from drive. It should find your USB stick.

Gigabyte has a guide for Q-flash installation which you should have on your phone if in doubt.

For good order sake I also downloaded the Intel chipset updater tool from Gigabyte too and updated my Intel chipset.

This worked for me. I hope I'm not too late.
