How can I be absolutely sure that the gpu is prioritized over the integrated graphics?

I've been having doubts on whether my i5 6600k graphics or my gigabyte 1070 g1 is utilized for the gaming i do. Anyway i can get certainty on this?

And when I alt tab from my games is it normal for the intel hd graphics to be responsible for that (I conclude that it's responsible because whenever it malfunctions windows gives a pop up noting that the intel hd graphics driver was the cause).

hit start, then type
dxdiag
hit enter
this will open a window, go to the display tab.
this will show you what device is being used and the driver version.

You shouldn't have intel drivers on your PC though.
can you confirm that you are plugged into the graphics card, not the motherboard?
Did you do a complete uninstall of the intel drivers prior to installing the Nvidia drivers?
