So my pc has become extremely slow after 3-4 weeks of owning it. I don't have an SSD but my pc loaded games and booted up like a boss without one. Just recently within this and last week, i noticed a big drop in performance. I have no idea what caused it. The thing is the first game I play loads super slow but the next couple rounds loads a bit faster. But in general my pc is responding so sloooooow. For example: Opening folders, opening apps, opening the web. My games will tend to freeze for split seconds when I'm in combat.
PC Specs :
- Intel i5 4690k (stock)
- MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X (stock)
- Seagate 2TB Desktop HDD SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive
- Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
- MSI Intel Z97 LGA 1150 DDR3 USB 3.1 ATX Motherboard
- Kingston HyperX FURY 16GB Kit (2x8GB) 1866MHz DDR3

Welcome to the TH community, @ianboy76!

I'd recommend you backup all your data from the computer somewhere off-site to an external, for example, before proceeding with the troubleshooting! I'd also suggest you scan for any virus/malware that might be causing this poor performance. You should also check if you have the latest hardware drivers from the manufacturers' official websites (the motherboard and the GPU). I'd also suggest you use the sfc /scannow command in Command prompt to see if there's any issue with the system files.

It might also be a good idea to reseat all the connections inside the rig and make sure there aren't any loose cables. Swapping the SATA cables connecting your drives might also be a good idea...

Give these a try and let me know if the performance improves. Good luck! :)

So after fully scanning my pc through Windows Defender, my performance did improve. I'm just confused what caused the slow down. I wasn't given any info after the scan, but thanks for your help. I'll probably come back if the fix is temporary.
