Hey guys. Installed my new gpu and psu yesterday and the PC booted and worked fine for about 20 minutes until it hardlocked, after which it wouldnt post and the red CPU debug light was on. After doing normal testing and resetting the cmos the pc booted up fine. Today it hardlocked again and won't boot. What could be the problem?

MOBO: MSI Z170-A Pro
GPU: GTX 1070
PSU: EVGA 600b
CPU: I5 6600k
RAM: GSKILL 2033

Probably worth noting that the computer pretty much randomly started working again when I had problems the first time. I was testing ram and it booted and just out of curiosity I put the second stick back in and it booted again.

I've followed every step on the motherboard testing page to no avail. I've checked the cpu and socket for bent pins and burn marks but nothing was seen. I also tested it with my previous power supply and it still didn't work. Is it safe to assume its the motherboard or can I not rule out CPU? I don't have another lga1151 motherboard to test the processor in.

I've tried most of the tests there outside of trying different components only because I don't have them. I'm mostly curious as to how I managed to fix it before but I haven't gotten it to work at all. The only things I can think of are that the mobo or cpu are bad. I've ruled out gpu/ram/psu/gpu and when I had it running last night I ran some stress tests to see if something was funky with the processor and everything came up fine. I'm really thinking something just broke on the mobo.

I thought that would be it too but the same thing occurred when I put the mobo on a piece of cardboard and tried it that way.

I can't get to my bios but as far as I know it was up to date. Virus clear too. Temps were chilly at the time.

I've also tried that. I've tried almost every combination of component and it all leads to the same static error LED.

Thats what I was thinking. It was between the mobo and the cpu and I dont think anything is wrong with the cpu considering I managed to get it to boot the first time this happened. A new mobo is coming in Friday we'll see then.
