So I was very excited to buy a new Intel 750 PCIe 3.0 ssd. I thought I covered all of my bases when researching compatibility, but I believe I missed a few important things. Like, will I even be able to use it as a boot drive? I am starting to see posts about it only botting to X99 boards. Also, now that I have the 750 in hand, I am noticing that my boards PCIe 3.0 slots are all x16 and the 750 is a x4 device. I haven't taken the 750 completely out fo the package yet and I don't want to until I am sure this is going to work. Please help!

That's an NVME drive - it needs to be supported in the BIOS in order to boot from it.

NVME BIOS support became available in early 2015, but I believe started with the Z97 chipset. I don't believe there was ever an update for any Z77 boards to allow support.

*EDIT* Looks like the last BIOS released for that board was September 2013 - no NVME support unfortunately.
The only option available would be to load an 'unofficial' BIOS, but I'm definitely not recommending that.
