Hp pro 3500 + gtx 1060 possible .?!

The main problem here is the power supply, I own an HP Pro 3500 and I can safely say that the power supply is awful. Spatially I would say that you are fine as I installed an R9 380 Nitro in mine with only a slight modification of the drive bay so I could put my 2 6pins in. I do not believe that you would suffer this problem.
As far as power supplies go I would recommend the Corsair CX550M (make sure to go with the grey models over the green ones) as it is a semi-modular power supply at a reasonable price.

Hi miningshark, Im struggling to get an r9 270 to work in my i5 HP3400 pro, despite putting in a Corsair 550, what mobo does your HP3500 have, I might try to get a later bios for that machine

I'm not sure if the bios will help, and as far as I'm aware as long as your Motherboard has a PCIe X16 lane then the card should run fine, can you please describe the problems you are facing?

I have an HP 3400 Pro mt, i5, 8gb of 1333, and a Corsair 550w psu
My idea was to make a budget machine for my 11 year old to play Bf1 at medium resolution
I picked up an R9 270 (not branded, I suspect from the s/n Asus)
Every time I fit it, no output at all, can't even get to bios. The PC spins up and drops back to standby (I assume, can't see obviously)
I have to remove it to get the PC to boot again via the on board vga
I've updated the bios to the latest HP version (7.16)
Very few options in the bios either, doesn't even mention vga of any sort lol

No probs, the card works fine in other machines, I took it out of my nephews and upgraded him, this is a fairly common problem it seems
Some r9 cards have a little switch allowing you to swap between uefi bios (modern desktop type) and legacy bios (olde worlde press esc on boot up)
I think that's the issue, the card is set up for uefi and the PC ain't.... Nor can it be unless I can find a newer bios outside of HP
