I'm getting confused by all the different things people say about what the pros/cons of having each one of these processors so hopefully someone can clear up few things for me
if we took the price difference between these cpus out of the way ( since that what effect most people decision as i saw ) what is the main differences and how big it is between these 3 ?

from what i understand for anything that use 4 cores or less (mostly gaming) the i7 6700k should be the best cuz of its improved IPC and higher OC ability which will give nice boost over the other 2
the i7 5820k got a decent OC ( more than 6800k ) but lack the turbo boost 3.0
the i7 6800k is newer but not much to offer over the 5820k other than the turbo boost 3.0
and ofc the later 2 ( 6800k 5820k) perform way better for anything use more than 4 cores ( like encoding ) or if u multi task like crazy ( gaming + streaming or w/e for example ) and also they should perform better once we start getting dx12 in more games cuz it get use of the extra 2 cores i might even say it can be the new sweet spot for gaming cuz of the few tests i found there is huge diminishing returns above 6 cores especially if we consider price too.

so is my understanding correct, wrong or there is more to the story than this ? cuz of what i see the 5820k is pretty nice considering its almost same price as i7 6700k especially if you were going for top shelf z170 mobo anyway and it got much more to offer if you ever change ur mind about what you use ur pc for and still perform same as 6800k. yet people recommending the 6700k over it, so is the skylake improvements + the extra OC speed really make that much of a difference over getting 2 extra cores?

its hard to fully answer your question as with a battle between these CPU's is only really doable when we know what you want to achieve from the CPU and what other things you will pair the CPU with. ill just say that if money wasn't an object then the I7-6800k would be my choice out of these CPU's and even if you bring money into it I would go with the I7-6700k. This is due to the Fact that I don't do extreme multi-tasking but I do stream and game at the same time. the I7-6700k would be perfect for my needs and that's the thing the best computer parts are personal.

@Hawkshot: its just a general question to get a better understanding over the different things each cpu can bring to the table, that is why i asked to include price comparison, and the reason i mentioned it in the end was just cuz i don't understand ppl decision about the 6 cores much

@guanyu210379: i meant if u going to get high end mobo with z170 chip its same price as x99 ( cuz there is no cheap x99 mobos ) so there is no actual price difference between going 5820 or 6700 for those ppl

If you are mainly game, i7 6700k and it's OC-ability are the better choice.
If you wanna stream your game, i7 6700k is still good.
Games tend to prefer faster cores/threads than having more cores/threads.
i5 is enough for gaming only, for gaming and streaming i7 is the option.

it seems i wasn't clear enough
my point is since 5820k is almost same price as the 6700k ( including the mobo ), what makes the 6700k the better choice ?
is the extra oc room and the skylake improvements have that much of impact, lets assume i'll use it for gaming at top graphics details will i see extra performance like way much more higher fps or these things don't have a huge impact ? i know they do make a difference my question is how big it is ?

my question is out of curiosity and for knowledge purposes more than anything else
that why i would like you to point the main differences and how much impact they do between these 3 processors if you can please, i know the 6600k is the sweet spot for gaming and 6700k is for who ever need hyper threading.
i just gave the above scenarios as sth to think about.
if the differences i pointed on the OP is all there is to it well you could just say that

the difference between the I7-5820k and the I7-6700k in games isn't much like 5-10 fps at the absolute maximum.

well since no one seems to answer my main question of the main differences between the 3 processors other than what i mentioned lets ask sth else that could help me understand the situation.
So what make the 6700k more viable than the other 2 then ?
are ppl just going for it cuz of these 10 fps for now cuz they would upgrade if they ever see a need for more cores/better processor ?
is it purely cuz of price difference ( which what i see so far ) ?
or is there more to the new skylake architecture that give it the edge over then other 2 ?
