My cpu is reaching temps in the high 70s while gaming according to HW monitor. MSI commnad center tells says it's in the high 60s. When I touch the case in the area where the mobo is it's almost too hot to keep my hand on. My gpu is also pretty toasty but i'm more concerned about my processor. Are these safe temps? How can lower them?

I gave you that article so you can get some more info on temps. now I have a 8350 and I will give you my opinons if you like.

I should ask what is your current cooler? is the stock cooler? if so then your temps under heavy load are about normal and you will need an aftermarket cooler to lower the temps(and in my personal view safe as I see no issue with a socket temp that's under 70c and themail margins that are 10c or higher from the oc throttle point)

how many case fans do you have? I recommend at least two for a fx build.(remember a air cpu cooler cant cool the cpu more then the case temp, also make sure your not blocking air flow. good cable management can help)

yes amd overdrive does not really control fans very well (really its...

OK, great program, but it won't let me configure my fan speeds. Should i take some pictures of the PC? Like it's location and my cable management? I'm not overclocking or anything so I'm very confused about what the problem is. It's not overheating but I'm definitely not comfortable with my current temps.

yes amd overdrive does not really control fans very well (really its only good for checking the die temp indirectly as thermail margin. I recommend using your motherboards program or your bios settings to control the profile.)

as for fan profiles make sure your cpu fan is running at 100% by 65c. asus seems to set the default fan speeds not to hit 100% till 80c. I'm not sure what MSI sets it as but its prob is set to hit max speed way to late.

yes some of this is my personal views but I think you are safe at 100% load if you keep your cpu socket temp below 75c(only 167F which is really not that hot) max.

any questions, comments feel free. you cant hurt my feelings :)

Thanks for your quick replies on this issue I'm having. I am currently using the stock cooler that came with the cpu. My case, a DIY PC- solar m1 black/red, has two case fans. My cable management is okay, but definitely not impeccable. The PC is placed under my desk, and the desk is adjacent to the wall. I do have carpet flooring and I heard placing a PC on carpet can limit airflow. I will try to get my hands on an aftermarket cooler soon.
