So I have been lurking for a while reading up as much as possible. Been trying to glean as much as I can before asking dumb questions.

My son turning 12 today wanted a gaming computer that would play Battle Field 4, the up coming Battle Field 1, and Aces High online and Microsoft flight sim. I use to play online flight sims about 6 years ago but started riding KTM dirt bikes instead. We currently play games on Xbox One.

So I thought instead of just shelling out cash for a completed system why not build one together and us both learn something. I have basic knowledge as far as what each part does but have never actually built one.....my son was not real enthusiastic at my prior experience level in this but given he has absolutely no choice but go along with the plan if he wants one. Spending money wisely is important and where possible matching cost to bang for buck. I do know it is better to "Buy once & Cry once" than going dirt cheap.

Here is what is what I put together so far.......I have purchased it all "Except" the GPU, Power Supply listed, an OS (Probably Windows10), and a decent quality flat screen.

We are reusing my old full tower lighted case, the lighted fans in it, and Plextor dvd player/burner. The HDD's that were in my old case I just plan to scrap for his build. Maybe later I will reformat them for something new for my for motorcycle video editing work. My goal was to meet the want and function factor with out breaking the bank.

See please take a look and offer any advice but most is already purchased and on the way. Plan to start Saturday.

I can get you better components for your money, I presume you want to keep it as cheap as possible with an RX480?
Memory was a good selection.
Would you be interested in buying a 144hz 1080p monitor?
Adds a lot to the experience in games where you can push higher frame rates.
I'll post a build in a bit.

Just realized what you said regarding what you'd already purchase! :p
Here's what I recommend.

Thank you both for pointing out the Power supply issue....experienced eyes spot those things quick. Sometimes I don't really spot the best deals but I am always interested in better. I should of posted my plan before purchasing but..........

I am interested in a 144hz monitor if the card would run it.

I have not purchased the RX480 yet as it seems like they are out of stock most places. So open to revision if need be .....

I sort of listened and purchased a different power supply that had a good reviews: I opted for it in case in the future we opt for Crossfire and i did not want to under buy power needs for possible upgrades.

Amazon: $69 prime shipping

EVGA SuperNOVA 750 B2 80+ BRONZE, 750W Semi Modular NVIDIA SLI and Crossfire Ready 5 Year Warranty Power Supply 110-B2-0750-VR

The RX 480s are in stock in most places, worst case you pay $10 extra for another brand of the same card.
The 750 B2 is a good quality power supply if you can find it for a good price, around 70-80 is usually a nice deal, leaves the future open to stuff like 1070 SLI as well! :)
Typically you don't want to go above 1080p 144hz with the RX480, as it may struggle at stuff like 1440p.

Thank you guys

Looks like a 144hz monitor is on the list now

I will look for the RX480 tomorrow to see if I can snag one up.....I did see several previously listed as "in stock" but were really back ordered.

No problem!
Shoot me a PM if you have any trouble getting parts, want help setting the PC up, or have any questions or queries. :)
You have the option of either putting it together yourself, or paying your local store to put it together for you.
Actually a deceptively easy task which is very simple once you get the hang of it.
Just so you know though, the 520w would have been more than enough for crossfire RX480s, but it was a good purchase regardless if you want to keep your options open for potentially a high end card in the future.
Crossfire RX480s might not scale well in some, and typically you want to stick with the best single card solution i've found, so a 1070 would be what you want to get in the case of an upgrade if that ever comes to mind in the future. Good pickup though whichever way you decide to go. :)

Just a follow up.......

Completed the build...took our time and double checked everything. Learned a lot and the system booted right up, then installed windows 10. Installed all drivers and up dates afterward. Could not find a Radeon 480 in stock so settled for a Radeon R9 380. I got a 25" monitor (not pictured as bought today at bestbuy on sale), Razor Kraken Headset, and some mid range sound system speakers. Went with a new mid tower case set up....mistake, my hands just too big and should of got a full size tower but it all goods and running great.

My son is very happy......thank you all for the input and letting me lurk and learn
