as the title states i am thinking about buying a used I5-3470s for $150 with a Q77 motherboard.

Im really wondering if this will last about a year or two until we know what zen is bringing to the table in terms of CPU performance

or if anyone knows a better CPU that i can pickup used or new i would love to know about it.

personally im not interested in a dual-core so the g3258 is out of the question.

here are the rest of the rapidly changing parts im going to be using

GTX 1060
8gb 4x2 DDR3/DDR4 depending on whats on sale on newegg atm.
a 500 watt EVGA bronze power supply

and thats about all i can set in ""stone"" for now

Hi,

Nope you are not arguing you have a good point there... If you decided to get Zen in the future you will need to change MB & RAM too. But the CPU you mention is good but you cant play games the require a lot of resources, beside if it is within the budget you want go for it.

I mentioned to wait because for example I have some money and I want to do a big upgrade so for the next 5-6 years wont need to change anything except maybe the GPU only.

Hi,

I would wait if you planning for Zen, as they suppose to release something at the end of this year and the rest in the Q1 in next year also not clear the prices for them. So save save :p

I am going through the pain of waiting to see that lol

About the I5-3470s, hmm it sounded good but the RAM is supports is kinda low as it supports DDR3 1333/1600 while DDR4 now goes up to 3200-3666Mhz.

Hmm I mean I know zen is just around the corner, but I'm horrible at saving money and I'm planning on getting a CPU and motherboard today + ram / PSU

So I can get rid of my horrid dell laptop that has a 6310 apu and can't even run half the games I would like to..

I have also been looking at some 2500K's as of recent

And about the ram support, personally I don't see the gains from going from ddr3 to ddr4 I mean in certain applications that I'm thinking about using RSM speeds would be a issue, but as I said this is really just to get my feet wet and ready for something new as I will have a nice platform to fall back on

I might sound like I'm arguing but I'm not really trying to as I've just woken up.

But thanks for all the insight
