Dear community

I'm wondering if my laptop with 2.4GHz network card that only allows up to 802.11n supports an 5GHz 802.11ac adapter with network speed allowed to max 433Mbps

If you mean you are going to put a USB network adapter into the PC then yes, as long as you research how to do so and disable the internal network adapter the laptop should be able to use the faster adapter.

Do however bear in mind that the advertised speeds on network cards are usually more of a best case scenario kind of thing, you probably won't get the full 433Mbps, and your WiFi hotspot will also have to be 802.11ac 5Ghz in order to get the speed benefit at all otherwise it will run at the lower speed.

My all-in-one box (a device that is as well as router, firewall, modem and switch) has both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz, thus has n as well as ac. My mom's and dad's iPhone's could see both 2.4 and 5.0 network available for them, I could only see 2.4GHz network on my laptop and smartphone. That's why I'm wondering if my network card Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 could only support up to 2.4GHz 802.11n network. If that's the case, then maybe the USB adapter of 5GHz wouldn't work on my PC that only supports 2.4GHz
