On a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 mother, in the Apevia X-QPACK3-BL case, both are set to use HD Audio by default, for the MB header and cable for the front panel connection, respectively. Now, I would like to add the Sound Blaster X-Fi fatal1ty pro gamer into the equation, but documentation is scarce on this sound card(Model SB0460).

My question is this... How can I tell, or is there a way to tell, which format the card uses AC-97 or HD Audio?

If it is HD Audio capable, what would the pin outs look like, as I think, I read that Creative uses some proprietary connection, to run to the Case front panel connection

I guess the issue is, given the age of the Sound Blaster Card(2005 - ish), which audio format, AC-97 ro HD Audio was utilized?

Any links to documentation, would be greatly appreciated. All I have is the data sheet and images or graphics, but no "Smoking Gun".

Thanks folks!

"How can I tell, or is there a way to tell, which format the card uses AC-97 or Intel HD Audio?"

It uses neither - - those two relate to the motherboard's on-board sound chip, not the SoundBlaster card.

I've checked the Creative site. They have drivers & software for the X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro Series, but no documentation as far as I can see: http://support.creative.com/Products/ProductDetails.aspx?catID=1&CatName=Sound+Blaster&subCatID=208&subCatName=X-Fi&prodID=15854&prodName=X-Fi+XtremeGamer+Fatal1ty+Pro+Series

Ok, right,,thanks for the information. Yea, like I mentioned, not a lot of documentation. Any suggestions? What I really need to do, is have the Sound Blaster, "Take Over" the F - Audio connections. So. I'd need to run a cable from the Sound Blaster card to the MB, F-Audio header. I have a cable, which plugs into the Sound Blaster card, but I need to know whether I should configure the pins for the MB side as AC-97 or HD Audio. Or, does it matter?

Just FYI, the reason, I need to relocate the F-Audio jacks/ports to the back of the machine, has to do with clearance issues, as the Apevia case, I am using, has it's F-Audi jacks on top of the vase and not actually the front. So, when the box is in position, there is simply not enough room to access the F- Audio jacks in their current location.

AM I EVEN THINKING CORRECTLY???

Do I need to run a cable at all?
Do I need to run a cable,, as I am pretty sure, I would have to disable, the MB audio anyways??
I'm just not sure anymore!?
