So my PC only accepts one of the 4 ram sticks I have. At one point 2 of the sticks worked but they randomly stopped working. I ordered another ram stick and when I put it in in my PC it beeps. I made sure it was ddr3 ram because that's what it supports. The ram is brand new and I doubt that it doesn't work. Only the original 4gb ram stick works with the PC. I updated my bios to the newest version. I know the ram is seated properly. But in the bios it only shows the 4gb stick. I tried multiple different combinations of the ram slots. The 4gb works on both the slots no matter how many ram sticks or what order. But the other ram sticks don't work at all. please help

Solution

That's not good.....
They usually use proprietary components, meaning that only the 4GB stick that came with it is compatible. It might use a locked BIOS, meaning it will only be able to utilize select components.
Contact Alienware and see what RAM they use if you can't find the serial number.
You're going to want more of that specific module.

2 of the sticks are the same. The other 2 are different. I've tried all different combinations and only the one 4gb one works. And I literally just got an 8gb one today and it won't work

Don't buy so many different sticks of RAM in the first place.... >.<
Use the single 8GB stick by itself in the second slot and get back to me.
At this point you're probably better off just buying new RAM all together or buying the same model as that 4GB kit and running with it.
Return the 8GB if you can if it doesn't work.

There is your problem.
It is only the original RAM stick that works yes?
It is likely that Alienware are using either DDR3L RAM or a uniquely manufactured model specifically for that board.
I will need the model numbers of each stick to confirm this though.
This is another reason why they offer extra RAM when buying from them, Alienware aren't great for providing the ability to upgrade, Origin PC are better in this regard.

Just copy and paste or write them into a thread post.
What do you mean by this?
"Well my PC motherboard got messed up so I put the one from an Alienware in my PC."
Not sure what you mean by 'my PC' given that you're saying the Alienware is a different thing....

Ok so I had a PC that I used previously. But the motherboard in that PC broke. So I took the motherboard from my friends Alienware that he didn't need and put it into my computer. I'm currently not using an Alienware pc. Just the motherboard.

Need model #s of DRAM, but am guessing the new 4GB simply doesn't want to play with the old, happens all the time, and doubt if you can make adjustments in your BIOS, most of the Alienware mobos have a locked bIOS
