Internet suddenly works fine

For the past few weeks I've been using wifi internet on my desktop. It is not really good since the desktop is quite far and the connection is bad (ping,up/download speed low). Anyway the problem is my wired internet no longer works (keep saying unidentified network, no internet) so I assume that my cable is broken. But is it possible for a cable to break but still receive some sort of signal from a router? Something like semi-break and not allowing for internet signal to receive?
This evening my cable internet suddenly worked fine. I did unplug the ac power adapter and seeing my cable is a bit curved and not stretching properly (could it be the problem, the cable was at tight angle that it could potentially break).
Or... could the router has limit on number of users thus my pc no longer has internet (wifi still work and the wifi is being shared with others housemates. No wired being share but me)

Solution

I figured it's not the port either. Plugging in between different ports did not resolve the issue but stretching out the wire a bit seems to fix it. As I recall now only 3-4 people are connecting it so it could not be an issue. Need to get back to number 1 spot now. But top 3 is fine
Either that your RJ45 ethernet cable is broken, or the port on either end is kaput.
Test it again, plugging your PC into a different modem port.
The amount of users may be the issue if you're having a large number of people connect to it at a single given time.
How many people is this, and what model modem do you have?
