Hi guys!

So the new card is just about to hit stores in our country and I still have plenty of time to research.

Question:

"Can I turn down the OC and make it go on its reference settings? Because I want it to be at 120W and at lower temperatures. Our country is very hot and has a very high electricity price tag."

Extra:
I don't want to go with the GTX 1060 since I'll be gaming at 1080P and since with Vulkan the RX 470 can run with the same speed as the GTX 1060.

Anyway, I really don't need advice whether I should get the GTX 1060.

Solution
Well there's actually a physical button the the GPU that you press to change the bios. Also with thoughs two large fans on the GPU I'm sure it will run pretty cool. As for the 1080p I looked some benches for the Rx 470 and it's not quite able to lock down 60fps with ultra settings across the board so you would need to adjust some settings to get it to 60fps. The Sapphire+ Rx480 4gb on the other hand performs above that and can easily lock at 60fps 1080p and you could even game at 1440p at respectable levels plus 2 hdmi outputs so Be ready Incase you ever want to dabble

I would not suggest any of the rx470 cards at their current price point. SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 480 4gb is the card you want and I know what your going to say about power draw but it has two separate bios on it one is full power and with the click of a button on the gpu it cuts down the power draw with a loss of some performance obviously plus even at full power the fans don't even kick in until 52c. It's $220 compared to the 470s witch are all $199 except last I checked one of the Asus strix cards was $189 but I didn't like the reviews on that one and it seemed to me to just be a slap job anyways. Custom shroud equals more money even if its just for show. Now if the Rx 470s ever do drop to around $160ish then I could recommend them but right now if you can get one the rx480 is where it is at imo.

Didn't know that there were two modes that you can go with. I don't really need the extra power so the RX 470 will do good for me plus it uses less power the the RX 480. The two factors that are really important to me is getting at 120W and Lowering the temperature. I'm really willing to get lower performance. Since I'll be gaming at 1080p for the next 2 or 3 years.

Anyway so getting back at what you said there should be an option or setting that I can punch in then the card will downclock itself which equals to less power draw and less heat but in exchange for a little bit of performance. I might go with your advice if the price is right here in my country as well. Plus I can wait till there some sort of holiday promo here before I buy one.

Update: So yeah I did some research and I'm now leaning towards the Nitro+ RX 480 8GB version since it'll be future proof. And I check the Bios switch that you mentioned earlier. I get it now. So follow up quesiton. Can I down clock it even further? because I'll just bump up the clocks when I can play a game properly. I really dont mind High settings over ultra on 1080p.

I was planning on downclocking so it'll run on stock. Like at 120W. While gaming. Not really at idle.

With the release of the gtx 1060 3gb cards I would have to recommend one of them for your needs now. The 480 Sapphire +nitro 4gb has throttling problems from what I've heard and is not even listed on Newegg any longer only the 8gb is. I know some people say 3gb is not enough today but let me tell you this. From research into it I have found that the rx470 is not even strong enough to push the 4 GB of VRAM it has and often under performs the the gtx 1060 3gb in most titles. The 1060 3gb even beats out the Rx 480 in alot of titles as well. From what I've read and benchmarks I've seen the Rx 470 8gb cards are a sham if they can't push the 4 they have how could they begin to take advantage of an extra 4 GB. Go with a gtx 1060 3gb and you can oc if you choose UpTo (20%) np. But it's not necessary this cards a beast and often boost past what the stated boost is to 1900+.
