Ever since I put my computer together it's been freezing while gaming. It freezes randomly and doesn't seem to have a pattern. When I first put my computer together I was using integrated graphics and I thought that was what was causing the freezing. After I got a graphics card, I still had the same issue. I thought that it was bad ram or a memory related problem but after I ran a windows diagnosis, nothing showed up. I thought it was overheating, but my temps stay low. I can't seem to figure out what's wrong. I feel like it's a software problem but I can't nail what's causing it. It's frozen while playing minecraft and steam games. It used to freeze when I pause a game for too long (that fixed after a clean boot). I used to be able to press control alt delete and log off so I can exit the game but now when I press control alt delete I just get a black screen and am forced to shut it down. Please help! Thanks!
My computer specs are:
Msi z170a pro carbon motherboard, i5 6600k, crucial ballistix sport 2x4gb, gtx 950, Evo 212 fan, evga 500 watts bronze certified

Solution
1) Go into the BIOS, maybe the hardware monitor section, to check the +3.3V, +5V, +12V. Info http://pcsupport.about.com/od/insidethepc/a/power-supply-voltage-tolerance.htm
2) Try reseat the cooler or loose the screws little bit, just don't tight too much, because skylake CPUs reportedly bending under pressure from third-party coolers. http://www.pcworld.com/article/3012030/components-processors/intel-skylake-cpus-reportedly-bending-under-pressure-from-third-party-coolers.html
3) Maybe try update the chipset or BIOS too.

I loosened the screws and updated my bios. I was confused about the power parts since I'm new to this and didn't understand it much. But 2 days later the freezing starts again. I don't know what to do anymore. I have tried everything. If anybody has any suggestions please help because at this point I am closing to giving up. Btw, this is my first computer build

1) Do you check those voltages in the BIOS? How do they look like?

2) May monitor the cpu/gpu temps by the software like HWiNFO64 https://www.hwinfo.com/download.php you can get those voltages ( +3.3V, +5V, and +12V) too with this software.

3) If you oc the i5, reset it to 3.5ghz.

4) Also may check the RAM one by one with MemTest86 http://www.memtest86.com/download.htm You only need run few passes, just make sure no single error.

I don't see the +3.3v but I did see the other ones. +5v is 5V and +12v is 12.096V. I did not do any overclocking, but I do have a msi gaming app that has a gaming mode. I use this mode and the CPU clocks anywhere between 3600MHZ to 3900MHZ. As for testing RAM, I used the windows memory diagnostic multiple times and everything came up good.

How about the temps, are they OK?

Try uninstall the MSI gaming app, then run the games again to see the pc does freeze or not.

Also which antivirus software do you run? Try disable it.

And may try use the intel XMP profile for the RAM too.

Temps have been really good. I have done a stress test and it never exceeded 52 C. Before your answer, i set the Gaming app to silent mode and it hasn't froze on me for over an hour. I will uninstall it now to be safe, and I have Kaspersky Internet Security. I'm not familiar with intel xmp profile for the RAM. What is it? I really appreciate your help! Thank you so much!

I set the xmp profile for my ram. My computer worked well and no freezing for about a day then as I was playing sleeping dogs, it froze again. I then proceeded to play just cause 2 and within the 30 minutes of me playing, it shutdown twice saying a program caused it to stop working correctly. I don't know if these problems are related however. It may be worth to mention that when i checked administrative events, it showed the faulting application path to be the one that just cause 2 is located in

I have also tried replacing ram and putting it in different slots but still no luck with resolving the issue. I tried tightening my cpu fan (Evo 212) but I feel like that may have caused it to freeze faster. Is it possible that my thermal paste wasn't good or maybe when I put in my cpu I bent some of the pins?

If you tighten the cooler too much, yes, that will cause the pin bent, may take out the cpu to check the socket to see there is bent pin or not. And afteryou take off the cooler, you will need to clean the old one, and reapply the new thermal paste.

Do you check your HDD or SSD S.M.A.R.T. by any software to see the drive is OK or not? the software like CrystalDiskInfo http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskInfo/index-e.html

And may go to the window event viewer to check out the error. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc938674.aspx

As of now, I can't remove my cpu because I do not have any extra thermal paste. I will have to order some from amazon and then I will remove it and see if any pins are broken. For the software you recommended, it has a lot of information that I don't know what to make up of, but it does show my harddrive is in Good condition. I loosened the cpu cooler even more and I will see if it freezes again. If it does, I will see if anything comes up on the event viewer. Everytime I have checked the event viewer in the past, I never saw anything that linked to my freezing problem. All it would show is kernel power and that is because I shut it off when it freezes.

When the PC frozen;
1) The CPU/GPU overheat, and you said the temps are good.
2) The hardware problem, like the PSU, but it is good, and either the RAM or hard drive is good. And even you use the intel iGPU you still had the problem. So the problem is from the MB, maybe bent pin, or other add-on hardware, like the network card, gaming mouse/keyboard, or other software/driver, etc.
3) Maybe the virus, try the malwarebytes, you may run it in the safe mode. https://www.malwarebytes.com/business/

You may use the minimum hardware to test, one stick RAM ( if you had two), onboard iGPU, one storage drive for the OS only ( not other OS, like the dual boot), may even reinstall the windows OS too, if you use the win10 that upgraded from the win7/win8.

I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem, but I recently noticed whenever the game freezes and I disconnect the hdmi from my computer and plug it back in, it minimizes the game (in this case csgo) which enables me to close the game. I also felt that the hdmi was hot as well as the back of the graphics card. I don't know if this may be the problem. Should I try making the gpu fans blow faster and if so, how?

Do you check the GPU temp ? You can use the MSI afterburner to set the fan speed, also you can use it to monitor the CPU/GPU temps too.
If you had other monitor, set the dual monitors, then run the MSI afterburner, and monitor the temps ( cpu and gpu) in other monitor while you play the game. If you don't have the 2nd monitor, run the afterburner before you start play the game. You may minimize the game when the pc frozen, then open the afterburner to check the temps.

Or you can use afterburner to set up onscreen monitor the temp, cpu/gpu usage, etc.

It was my mistake, when I would check temperatures I would only check my cpu because I was so sure the problem was not my computer. I believe the problem was that my fan wasn't blowing enough to keep the gpu cool. Just as a test, I set the fan speed to 100% and no freezing for the past two days. I will continue playing for another day or so to see if my problem was officially solved.
