Buying a new graphics card that supports my monitor and build

Hello,

Recently i bought a Benq XL270Z monitor only to find out my graphics card doesn't support 144hz apparently. It only shows me 60hz in the advanced monitor settings and when i go to amd to set it to 100+ hz it says my custom resolutions are not compatible with this display. I've tried using CRU, i've tried using different cables and i have even tried overclocking my system using an amd ati pixel clock patcher. The result was actually getting the options higher than 60hz and i can even set it to 144hz but it says incorrect cable and my screen even starts tearing ! It doesn't matter which one it's set to 100/120/144 hz they all do this and they all tear and my screen display keeps going away. I have an old Amd r7 200 graphics card and i already have my eyes on a new graphics card. The Asus STRIX-GTX960, now my problem is since my rig is so old i don't know if everything will come together smoothly by just upgrading this and being able to use my pc normally WITH the extra feature of 144 hz. I've already looked at some specs and compatibilities and i need confirmation from someone who really knows about stuff like this since i'm unsure about knowing everything to prevent problems of something not working. Thank you very much in advance for all your replies.

tl;dr: I need someone who will tell me if this setup will come together smoothly without any problems of something not fitting or not being compatible tech wise, like bottlenecking and all that jazz.

you have a deeper issue going on with that monitor

you have the monitor hooked up to the gpu and not the motherboard right?

I have used dvi d dual link cable that came with the monitor and i ordered another one myself. My graphics card doesn't have a displayport. I have also updated my drivers, windows update and the pc recognizes the monitor by updating it's drivers. Idk what else it could be besides the gpu.

make sure you have the proper cable

your setup would be barely passable for 60 hz gaming

as the cpu is very weak, you would hardly achieve 60 fps in most newer games

power supply is very suspect as well, i would get a proper unit before throwing in a new gpu

run DDU, uninstall all the old gpu drivers

then go to the amd website and install the newest drivers

I'm not really interested in newer games since i'll be playing fps games like overwatch,cs go and league of legends. I'm already getting 200-300 fps on these games with my current cpu and gpu. I am just wondering if this new gpu will work with my rig like i stated and i've already uninstalled everything and reinstalled without any success. I have the newest drivers so i don't know what ddu could solve.

I could upgrade my cpu also together with my graphics card and psu but i wouldn't know where to start. Please some suggestions on how to fix my problem. New parts? New gpu only is fine with this? Upgrade all 3?

cpu wise there is nothing to upgrade to, other choices would not be better for gaming on that platform

So i need to upgrade motherboard aswell? What would happen if i just upgraded my graphics card. Would that turn out well compatibility wise and for the 144hz and some improvement in my fps without bottlenecking?
