Hello and thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm torn on what upgrade to go for with the recent 1080 release. I'm considering going 980ti SLI, but I have two concerns.

First, my CPU is a 3770k with a modest 4.2 ghz OC. Would this CPU bottleneck that SLI setup?

Second, I have a Corsair 850w 80+ Gold PSU. This one: CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD. Would I need to worry about issues arising from this PSU while gaming for long stretches with 980tis in SLI?

Btw, I don't further overclock my GPUs, only factory overclocks. And I have 16gb of RAM, and a few performance case fans.

Please help.

Thanks.

I appreciate the response, but I've already considered SLI issues coupled with the investment in an old generation. My reasoning is that I'd prefer to spend $400 on a more powerful setup right now, and upgrade when the 1080ti or newer releases, than to spend $600+ on a 1080 when the 1080 is not really the FPS boost I'm looking for. FYI, I recently upgraded monitors to an ultrawide 1440 display at 75 hz. My personal benchmark is to have The Witcher 3 run above 60 FPS smoothly with most graphical items maxed, and Hairworks on at the minimum setting. I've benchmarked TW3 on my friend's 1080 on my ultrawide monitor and it's hovering around 60 fps, frequently dipping below that. I want something that is pushing 75 fps.

Basically, I just want to know if my CPU and PSU can handle two 980 tis in SLI, as I've used SLI before and had a really good experience with it.

Thanks again.
