When Microsoft ends support completely for software, users are then forced to do something to have the ability to restore and maintain their working PCs. For whatever reason, users don't want to or cannot upgrade. These aren't people building new PCs to sell, just people who must continue working with obsolete software for reasons of their own. These folks are legal registered owners of systems using XP. They have the choice of buying a new sealed XP SP3 disk on ebay or downloading it...

Nonsense. You can buy Dell, HP and Microsoft XP Pro disks on eBay. They are genuine because they are so cheap there is no motive to counterfeit them. Get SP3, since there are no updates from MS any more.

Sure you can get them, but they may not work in the system with the license key they have, those disk are made to be used with the systems they came with, some won't even boot in a different model system. Some also include built-in drivers, which can result in crashes if installed on a different computer. Unless you know what you are looking for, getting a good working Windows disk off ebay is not so easy. If you get a Pro version and you have a license for Home, it won't activate for example.

The original poster needs to reinstall XP. You can buy a Dell XP SP3 disk for about $15 on eBay that will work fine, matching the edition of your COA (Home or Professionoal). It will be OS only, Dell distributes drivers on second DVD. Or you can download the ISO free here:

You can download drivers from dell for your Lattitude 630 from here:

Assuming it's an actual retail copy of Windows 7 you can get a legal ISO download from Microsoft's website. Windows XP downloads are easy to come by off the Internet although I don't recommend pirating for the sake of this forum's guidelines.

The only OS Microsoft is selling today is Windows 10, which may not even work on ancient hardware due to driver problems. So Windows 10 is not an option for these XP users, unless people buy a new PC just to run Windows 10. That does not make business sense, or environmental sense.
