Hi All, I have got the below config and want to check if the following RAM would work with my machine even though it's not listed in my motherboard's user guide QVL list.

CPU: Core i7 3820 3.60 Ghz, 10MB cache, 130W
MB: Asus P9X79 Pro

RAM which I planning to install:

https://www.amazon.com/G-SKILL-Ripjaws-240-Pin-Desktop-F3-17000CL11Q-16GBZL/dp/B00694IKUI

Please advise if the above one is the best choice from both budget and performance perspective or there are any other better options. thanks.

The Ripjaws Z will be fine :) The Z series was designed towards the X79 mobos with quad channel use in mind. It's one of the few models of DRAM actually designed for quad. They already had had the Ripjaws X aimed at dual channel mobos. They've done the same with DDR4 where they have the RipJaws 4 series for quad, and the Ripjaws V aimed at dual

Ok. I see the below DRAM listed on the gskill link which you had provided your reply so I believe it should work on my machine with no tweaks required to the settings in BIOS, right ?

G.SKILL 16GB (4 x 4GB) Ripjaws Z Series DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) 240-Pin Desktop Memory Model F3-17000CL11Q-16GBZL
