I have a MSI R9 280x Graphics card with a HDMI lead connecting from that to my Acer 4k monitor. I have the latest drivers for both.

The issue is when i go to Control Panel > Display > Adjust Resolution it only shows 1920 x 1080?

Rather than showing 4k resolutions, and the picture quality looks rubbish because of this.

I can't seem to think of a reason why this is like this and was hoping for some help on a fix

Thanks.

Solution
I had a similar situation a while back when i ran my Gtx 780 with my 4K display, found that using a display port cable is much better and fixed the issue. (Also you can enjoy 60hz rather than the limited 30hz via HDMI)

AMD Radeon settings software show max resolution as 4k, but all the options to change resolution in the software caps at 1080p, and when i try and chnage to 4k it goes back to 1080p

How about the monitor setup? See that it's not forcing certain format to the image. I'm assuming you use HDMI cable connected to the gpu, right? Check through control panel/device manager if the card is connected right, and try disabling integrated graphics.-

Through control panel/device manager/graphics and here it must have 2 options, one is the gpu and the other one is the integrated gpu. Right click that option and disable.-
