When will the GTX 1070 be sold for around $379?

Any idea of when the card will be sold for the target price that was first announced? I want to buy it but not for the price it is at at the moment. Is there going to be a price drop, or is what it is currently at the moment ($429 - $529) going to be the norm?

The current models are based on the Founders Edition, which was designed to be a higher quality version of the card. Until the more standard version comes out, the price point will probably stay above $400.

nVidia's claim that the FE cards are somehow superior rings hollow, better than previous reference cards perhaps, certainly not equal to the AIB cards. The FE is actually quite rare at this point. They have 19 AIB cards for sale and just 5 FE cards. The 1070 AIB cards dropped about 5-6 weeks ago .. about 2 weeks after the FE

Every FE Edition 1070 / 1080 is gimped by thermal throttling, the AIB units are better in every single criteria

AIB Card (9.8) - https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_1070_Gaming_X/29.html
FE Card (9.3) - https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_1070/29.html

Idle temperatures are excellent, which is no wonder since the fans don't stop in idle. During gaming, the FE card goes above 82°C, which results in lower clocks due to Boost 3.0.

NVIDIA’s own reference design suffers from severe throttling just after few minutes. It probably wouldn’t be that bad if not the frequency spikes. While average clock is somewhere around officially stated boost clock, those spikes cause micro-stuttering, which negatively affects gaming experience.

The 1060 however is low enough power that it doesn't suffer from this malady

I actually own a 1070 Gaming X myself, it definitely a good card and I haven't seen any thermal problems. I had a feeling Nvidia's claims about the FE wouldn't live up to much.
