980ti temps are way too high!

I am running two EVGA 980ti sc cards in a Corsair Air 540 (so they are getting plenty of air flow) and i am not currently over clocking either. For God knows what reason one card ALWAYS runs 10c higher than the other card. I have custom fan curves set to run 100% fan on 70c gpu temp, and i have flipped the cards too its always that specific 980. Maybe worth mentioning i ran corsairs updated cooling bracket with cpu cooler to do a make shift water cooling gig on the cards and worked but STILL had that one gpu 10c(+/-). Both cards have the same amount of thermal paste good brand etc. i cant think of what it could be. Ive heard of cards being faster or slower clocks from the factory but higher or lower temps!? No way, please help this has been one of my biggest headaches!

Solution
Found out that its normal for the style cooler on my gpu for sli sets UPS to have the top card around 10c hotter due to less airflow since the cooler designs are ACX style and not the stock blower style
Could be an issue with the temp gauge. That's the most likely answer.

If you can get your hands on an infrared thermometer, you could try measuring the back of the board under the GPU; 10 degrees is enough it would radiate and make a noticeable difference there.

EDIT: Or not, that's interesting. Wouldn't have thought of it, but it makes sense. You learn something every day.

temp gauge is working fine, its def the specific card and its irrelevant which card is displaying to my monitor i have one card that specifically runs 10c+ higher than the other 12c-14c higher to be exact.

By temp gauge I meant the specific sensor that the GPU has on it that reports temperatures to the motherboard. I know that the ones on the motherboard itself are known to go catterwonky all the time.

The other likely problem is that the heatsink on the problem card isn't seated quite correctly. Unfortunately, the guaranteed solution for that is to remove the heatsink, properly 'lap' both the GPU and heatsink, and reapply using better thermal paste. That's a hell of a process when you don't know if the issue lies there or with a maltempered thermometer.
