Hey Guys,
I recently started a new PC build and got myself a Corsair 350D case and an EVGA 1000W PSU. I originally wanted to go with a 6700k and Maximus Gene VIII for its compatibility with CrossFireX and SLi (since I intend to carry over my 2 MSI R9 390X's until I can afford 2 MSI 1080 Sea Hawks).

However a mate of mine said that the top gpu would overheat because of a lack of spacing between the two. He suggested I go for an Asus X99M WS instead and buy a 5930k cpu because the motherboard requires a 40-lane cpu to have the very bottom sli slot run at x8. He mentioned that with the H115i cooler I should be able to OC the 5930k to 4ghz. I'm skeptical, however, about things I've read about the m.2 slot on the x99 board. This also means I have to save another 2 months for the 2nd Sea Hawk, which isn't a train smash....I guess...

Should I rather make peace with it and just go X99 or is there a Z170 motherboard that has an x8 PCI-e slot at the bottom and stil has the ability for me to utilize an M.2 slot ssd?

Please note that I am spending a lot of hard-earned cash and I'd rather not read "...it has a slot at the bottom that only runs at x4, but you probably wouldn't even be able to tell the difference..."

I truly appreciate the time You, the reader, set aside for me.
Thank You

Perhaps. I guess I was just counting on getting what I pay for. I mean if Asus advertises being able to run 3 cards in the pci-e slots, would it really be so bad if I simply wanted to use 2 of them together @ x16? I mean I'd even be satisfied with 2 cards @ x8.

Anyhow, thanks for the reply mate. I think you've helped me figure out what needs to happen: If I want to spend money, I might as well put aside my fears and do a custom loop. It would probably be the only way I could use those 2 cards together on an mATX 'board.

Thanks again.
