i have recently rma a gtx 960 and is being fixed right now, this means i need a replacement gpu and i dont have an igpu as i have an amd athlon 860k. my replacement is a gts 250 which can play some basic game such as hearthstone, rocket league and csgo. However when i i start up my pc it says their is a problem. the reason why their is a problem is because my gtx 960 drivers are still in the pc and are getting confused with the gts 250, i cant start windows and i need to find a way to uninstall the drivers. please help.

Solution

Boot to safe mode w/networking and download and run DDU. Install it, run it, and have it remove all traces of any Nvidia or AMD gfx drivers it finds. See if you can then boot to the desktop normally.

It's pretty easy.
1) Download and install DDU. (Don't run it yet)
2) Download the correct driver for your GTS 250 to somewhere easy to get to; like the desktop. (Don't run it yet)
3) Now run DDU. It will immediately offer you the option of re-booting to safe mode. When in safe mode, DDU will start again and offer you a screen in which you can uninstall existing Nvidia gfx drivers and its remnants. Then it will offer you the option of re-booting back to the desktop.
4) Once back at the desktop, run the Nvidia gfx driver installation pgm. Done.

What OS are you using? Usually tapping F8 at startup gets you to the boot menu where you can select safe mode with networking.

But I don't think that the drivers is your problem. If Win didn't find the correct driver to use, it simply would default to the generic gfx driver. However, give safe mode a try.
