I am wanting a cpu that has a good uprade path and a good gaming performance, GPU will either be GTX 960 or Rx 480 even a r9 380x. if the cpu is cheaper than $100 I might get a GTX 1060. this will be my first build and I still haven't bought anything. I am fine with playing on medium setting but want around 60 fps. upgrading from an asus x555la laptop. I also for intel have picked out the i3 6100 and budget is around $600.

Solution
Don't bother getting AMD chips cheaper than the i3 6100, they are all much worse for games. Just wait a bit and save up enough to get the 1060 if you want it. Right now the 1060 can be had for 249 (http://pcpartpicker.com/product/pbL7YJ/evga-geforce-gtx-1060-6gb-gaming-video-card-06g-p4-6161-kr) while the 480 is only $10 cheaper (http://pcpartpicker.com/product/CpH48d/gigabyte-radeon-rx-480-8gb-video-card-gv-rx480d5-8gd-b)

When comparing both the 480 and 1060 on GAMES, each using their best API, it usually turns out the 1060 is ahead, with the exception of a few AMD sponsored games like hitman. Not by much mind you, and for 99% of people the two cards will be almost the same in performance per dollar (over two years)
