So I've bought 2 AF140s a while ago to act as my intake fans for my HAF XB but when the case's front panel is on they barely move any air, taking the front panel off, they move a huge amount of air.

So I wonder if I made the wrong decision when picking the fans, should I have got SP140s? I always assumed SP fans were for radiators and heatsinks.

Solution
Those look like they might deliver a little bit higher airflow than an AF140, but they won't compare to the SP140s.

If you want good cooling performance, then you'll have to pay a little extra for good fans.
Are they pulling air through like a tight mesh? If so, then the SP140s will do much better.

Airflow fans are better at moving air faster but don't deal with obstacles very well. Static Pressure fans (when unobstructed) don't move air as fast as Airflow fans (when unobstructed) but they deal with obstacles a lot better. Whereas Airflow fans (when obstructed) will provide very little actual airflow but Static Pressure fans (when obstructed) will provide more actual airflow.

These are the fans that were installed by default with the case, they have thicker fins than the AF140s but not the SP140s, it doesn't state anywhere whether they are SP or AF fans. Taking the dust filter off made the situation a bit better but not by much.
