Turn off PC, switch PSU off, hold the power button for 1 minute and try to reboot.

If that doesn't work, try the VGA port instead of HDMI (assuming you're using HDMI in this day and age.)

If both don't work, either take out CMOS battery for 5 minutes, or possibly reseat the 970 just in case.

No problem.

Can't think of any other solutions off the top of my head besides trying a different monitor/TV. I had this problem with my graphics card not too long ago. About a week ago to be precise. After a several reboots, it just randomly worked for me. despite none of the above things I suggested to you working. Hopefully you're just having the same problem. If not, your GPU might be dead depending on how long you've had your GPU.

lol no problem!

It's hard to screw up a build unless you really try. If everything besides the display is working on the graphics card, there's a really good chance it's something faulty on your end, no offense, it happens to the best of us.

I'd say plug the HDMI or VGA/DVI cord into the I/O ports on your motherboard instead of the GPU itself. Hopefully you have Integrated graphics on the processor to test out your PC. You can then enable the GPU in the device manager when you make it to the desktop.

If the above suggestion doesn't work, i'd say go through this list here:
