Speak of the Devil, I got the dreaded "cpu overvoltage" error today - I yanked the plug out as fast as I could and cleared the CMOS - luckily there was no permanent damage. So I downloaded the lastest BIOS and installed it on my Asus X99-A - let's hope for my sake in doesn't happen again! I thought that for sure, Asus would have had this fixed by board #4. I didn't even run a stress test or anything this time. Asus has been silent about the issue, but it's a big deal on the ROG forums.

On a positive note, my AIDA64 memory benchmarks went through the roof with this update - over 70GB/sec read, write, and copy at 2666! God, I want to like this board, it's really is awesome in every way except for its penchant for torching...

I would suggest the Asus X99-Deluxe its a top quality board at a reasonable price and have built a couple of systems with this board and never encountered any issues or had any negative feedback.

If you don't plan on overclocking, the Asus X99 boards are great. You don't even need to read the rest of this post. That being said, I have the X99-A, which has the same 8+2 Phase design as the Deluxe, and I feel like it's too fragile for extreme overclocking. I'm on my fourth one. If you run Prime 95 28.9 or Intel Burn Test while overclocked to 4.5+ GHz, there's a good chance that it will die and take your CPU with it.

On the other hand, I really like the looks of the ASRock X99 OC Formula. If I had to do this all over again, I would have started with that one.

Look at the asus or evga boards. Best hardware u can u buy. I have been using Asus boards for out 10 years and haven't gotten a doa or burnt a board yet. EvGA also over builds there products and they stand behind there stuff like no one else. I have a Asus x99-deluxe-2 amazing board. 6850k on water.

ASRock OC Forumla X99 or EVGA Classified X99 would be my recommendation.

There will always be something new on the horizon. Kaby Lake is going to be quad-core, so it's not really in the same league as Broadwell-E. A better comparison would be to the upcoming Skylake-E, but that's at least 9 months away. Do you want to wait 9 months for 10% more speed?
