I got two random shutdown since 3 week when I built this PC. Once(shutdown+reset) before I got my GPU, and now this time it was just a shutdown, and it refuse to turn on anymore - with GPU installed. No fan will run or no post/bios will turn on, nothing on display. But if I unplug GPU, everything works normal. I had GPU installed over three days, and it ran smooth, no issue, I didn't play with it or overclocked or so.

My components:
PSU: Evga supernovo g2 850w(gold)
Mobo: Asus z170 pro gaming mobo
CPU: i7 6700k
GPU: Evga GTX 1080 FTW
RAM: GSkills 3200mhz, 16 gb
M.2/SSD: Samsung pro 950(windows installed) + samsung 850 evo

one possible thing could be a faulty power supply.. maybe the power supply is faulty & is not delivering the required power to the components..

OR the power regulator on the motherboard is bad..

OR the power regulator on the GPU is bad, but that shouldn't impact other components AFAIK as GPU should affect the display only..

try using the GPU in a friend's PC to check whether the GPU is fine..

are you running windows 10? I do get random freezes and have to do a random reboot.. never had issues before, but I got it just twice since I got my new 1070..

This is a faulty GPU. There is no power regulator on the motherboard for the GPU, it uses the 3.3V, 5V, 12V from the ATX connector. It is pretty much hardwired from the ATX connector to the PCI-E slot.

There is an outside chance that the PSU is borderline and the addition of the graphics card is enough to cause the system to not post. This is very rare because we aren't talking about much power at boot, so the difference with the card in and out is only maybe 10 - 20 W.

I second the testing of the card in another system. I think you'll find that it does the same thing there.

no power regulator on the motherboard ???? so nothing controls the power supply to the components in the motherboard!?!?

There is no regulator for power to the PCI-E slot. Back in the day, there were regulators for AGP cards, but not for PCI-E as far as I know. The power draw from the PCI-E slot is controlled by the graphics card. That is why the issue with the RX 480 could be fixed by a driver update. The card controls how much power (current actually) is drawn from the 3 supplies I mentioned.

Drivers will not cause a system to not POST, it will only affect the system once the BIOS / UEFI has handed over control of the graphics card to the OS.

Okay this is how far I got(working now).. After the "sudden shutdown", PC refused to start as long the GPU was inside..
*If pulled it off, the PC were able to turn on. Put it back, it wouldn't turn on anymore, even in another slot.

*If I put in an older GPU, the PC would turn on. I swapped GPU's again and the new GPU wouldn't let the PC turn on.

* I put the new GPU inside my other PC, the other PC turned on, but it shut down immediately (the fan spinned for a milisec), the behavior was almost the same, but I could at least turn it on less than a second.
I then I tried to turn it on a second time(still on my other PC), there we go, everything turned on and the led/fan on GPU was running fine.

*I put the new GPU back to the original PC, it worked fine as before.

What the heck went wrong? I think the sudden shutdown caused by the same issue like the first time, but this time with the GPU inside, I think my GPU went crazy somehow because of the sudden shutdown, and my other PC turned it alive by pushing some watt inside?

I highly believe it's the same issue that caused the first shutdown(when GPU was not installed), but this time with GPU inside, it wouldn't be able to turn on until I somehow revived the GPU by putting it on my other PC.

EDIT: Could this be PSU related? I mean, if it would be e.g. RAM, or GPU, it would rather go bluescreen, and not sudden shutdown right? It's normal that GPU goes crazy because of PSU-shutdown?

well, it's working now without a glitch right? want to test it? run some benchmark apps.. it should be fine.. now nobody will know what the issue was and how it got fixed lol..
