Hello guys

I'm planning to get rid of my old gpu, r9 270x, and try out the new 1070 from Nvidia.

For the installation process; are there some specific steps I need to follow to do this in a fantastic manner?

I've heard somethings about driver problems when switching, so if you could help me out with this one, i would appreciate it.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

1. Uninstall All Things AMD GFX related from Control Panel / Programs

2. Turn off Windows ability to install Hardware drivers. NEVER let Windows Update install HW drivers

3. Optional (I generally only do this when having problems)

Use a registry cleaner (i.e. CCleaner) to clean out all things AMD GFX related. With Ccleaner, there are 15 boxes in the left pane, check only one at a time and analyze. Uncheck all bozes in right pane and then only recheck those with AMD GFX related items and remove. Rinse and repeat for other 14 left panel items, one a at a time.

Make sure you remove the AMD drivers.
You can always use DDU to remove it all.
Download the latest driver from Nividia, on install choose custom install and select clean install. It's up to you if you want to install things like GF experience.
Once installed open the Nvidia control panel and adjust the settings. Make sure you also check windows update as it may require a driver from Windows for the new card.
Enjoy your new 1070 , it's going to be a massive improvement over the 270X.

You can also use one of the auto uninstallers but I find the registry cleaner still catches leftovers so I don't use anymore.

Thanks for your advice and I'm sure I'll be enjoying the improved graphics the 1070 has to offer.
One last question, what do you mean with DDU? I'm new to changing hardware parts and my knowledge is extremely limited about both hardware and software, so if it looks like I've just asked the most stupid question, I'm sorry.

Also, removing the old gpu and placing the new one is nothing more than just disconnecting the power cable with the 8 thingies and unscrewing the card, placing the new card, screwing it tight and connecting it again?

A friend of mine will be helping with this, but I don't mind having a bit of comprehension about building a pc.

DDU is an uninstall utility that removes drivers .. comes in handy if normal procedure doesn't work

It does a good job tho a) new drivers come out and then the utility needs to be updated and there's a lag between and b) sometimes it will miss a registry entry.

Again, most of the time, use of DDU or registry cleaning is not required. As long as you don't let Windows Update install HW drivers you shouldn't run into problems.... tho it will happen in rare instances

1) Download new driver package and Display Driver Uninstaller (http://www.wagnardmobile.com/), unpack DDU.

2) Remove previous graphics card software and drivers using Control Panel.

3) Reboot into safe mode.

4) In safe mode, run DDU. It will also (by default) disable Windows' automatic driver install.

5) Reboot into normal mode.

6) Install new driver.

7) Reboot.
