Been looking around the internet for a while now and no one has had a straight-forward answer. I'm planning on switching the motherboard on my gaming pc so that I can get a more current cpu socket, I currently have an fx 6300 amd processor and am going to switch to an intel lga socket most likely. I would just like to know if there is a way to change motherboards while keeping my windows and all my data intact on the new motherboard, thanks!

Solution
When changing platforms as you describe, you would have to backup your important data, reformat the disk, then do a clean install of your OS.
You can't just install your existing OS drive and expect it to boot.

you can boot from your hdd , or your ssd , but there 's a small problem and that's with the RAM , unless you do a clean install it's gonna tell you part of your RAM is not usable , but the rest is ok , windows gonna detect your new hardware and install drivers for them all you need is a functioning internet connection
