So I am building a brand new pc and I have a hard drive with windows 10 oem installed. I know I can't use it and use the same windows 10 on the new pc which replaces all parts except for the hard drive. How am I able to keep all my files and reinstall a new copy of windows 10 on it without any problems? Explain the steps to installing windows 10 to the old hard drive when I first boot up the new PC. Thanks!

Hey there, M0dar.

If the OS is on a separate partition from your files, you can reformat only it instead of the whole drive and install Windows on that particular partition. This should not affect anything on any of the other partition you may have. However, if everything's on the same partition, you'll need to backup you files first and make a fresh install of Windows as shown in this tutorial: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-windows-10-clean-install.html.

Either way, I'd recommend a the second options - backup, reformat the whole drive and make a clean install.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, helped a lot, but 1 more simple question I am confused about. If I were to just deal with it and just reinstall all of my files later, would I just delete all the partitions for the drive I want my OS and files to be saved on, and be set to go for Windows installing and a fresh new PC? Also would your method work on my old hard drive anyway? I heard of a bunch of errors and blue screening that goes on sometimes
