Issue creating RAID 5 array on Asus Z170 Pro with WD 2TB Black drives

Two weeks ago I purchased the components for my next PC build. I chose an Asus Z170 Pro motherboard and Western Digital 2TB Black drives as parts of that build. Every other piece has behaved smoothly but when I try to build the RAID 5 array, an odd issue crops up. The array gets created just fine at the hardware level (on-board controller) and Windows 7 let me start formatting it. Here's where the first issue cropped up: one of the drives was removed from the array and no longer showed in the system. The format finished on the other two drives successfully. I rebooted and the third drive still wasn't visible. As I was tired, I shut down and left it for the next day. The next day, lo and behold, the drive was now visible to the system! I let Windows rebuild the array and after several hours, the array was back. As soon as I tried to run software that I had installed to the array when it was just two drives, the drive once again was removed from the array and was no longer visible to the system. This happened three more times after shutting down the system overnight. Before I start looking at returning components, has anyone seen this occur before? Is it possibly the RAID controller or probably just the drive?

Any input would be greatly appreciated,
Len

If you want a raid5, do it right! Use SPM394 or SPM393, with these controller you can us any DESKTOP hdd
spm393: https://www.amazon.com/multiplier-hardware-RAID0-CLONE-Controller/dp/B004JPUZWU/
SPM394: https://www.amazon.com/Port-Multiplier-SATA-hardware-controller/dp/B004JPHAF0/

Dont listen to me, read the review from actual user to see how good these controllers

Well first the WD blacks are not "officially supported" in raid configuration, that being said I have seen quite a few being used for RAID without issue.

Did you notice if it was the same drive dropping each time? If so I would run the WD tools on that drive and make sure it's 100%.
