I have an old system lying around with an ECS 945gct motherboard. It has a Pentium 4 @2.8ghz with 2gigs of RAM. I also have a spare Dual Core E5300 which I want to install on that mobo but it requires a BIOS update. The problem with that mobo is that it's CMOS battery slot is faulty, after installing the battery it only holds a charge for about a day that too can vary for how long and starts showing CMOS battery error. Before installing the update I will replace the battery so it can hold a charge for some time and load default BIOS settings. So while installing the update IF the charge is lost and the settings are reset will it brick the motherboard? Also can I update it without the battery ?

*I will install the update using Windows 7.
