Hello everyone,:)

I'm from Hong Kong and I want to a new computer to replace my old one. I need the new PC for mostly gaming (heavily modded Skyrim, Batman Arkham Knight) but also for Abode products. I have a budget of around 838.70 USD (6500 HKD). These are the things I've planned to buy so far (I live near computer stores):

CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-4690K Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.90 GHz)
http://ark.intel.com/products/80811/Intel-Core-i5-4690K-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_90-GHz

Display Card: GEFORCE® GTX 960 4GD5T OC
https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/GTX-960-4GD5T-OC.html#hero-overview

Motherboard: GA-B150M-D3H
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5491#ov

Hard Drive: Toshiba 3TB 7200 RPM DT01ACA300
https://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-3-5-Inch-SATA3-Drive-DT01ACA300/dp/B00B229W04

PSU: Extreme Power Plus 550W
http://www.coolermaster.com/powersupply/extreme/extreme-power-plus-550w/

RAM: (I have two pieces of Corsair RAM, I was wondering if I can transfer them to my new PC)
Corsair 8GB DDR3 DRAM

I hadn't chose a case yet, but I was wondering if all these parts fit each other, and since the above parts cost ~645.15 USD (5000 HKD), I was wondering if I can upgrade any of the parts. Oh, and I don't plan on buying an SSD or a optical disk drive.

I'd be thankful for any advise given you guys. :)

Solution
I think you are ready to build, all of those parts are compatible. The only thing I would recommend if you still have a little budget left over get a better CPU cooler. The current one is fine though, and you could just put any extra money towards games though, what ever you want to do.

1. If you want to overclock get a z97 motherboard.
2. If you don't want to overclock I would recommend an i7-4790( no k) and to change the motherboard to an h97 chipset.
3. Unless you know you need that much storage then the most I would get is 2tb, 1tb would be fine unless you wanted to store a lot of movies and games. If you still have money left over after this I really would recommend an ssd, it makes boot times WAY faster and just makes your system snappier overall.
4. If you don't have an operating system then I would recommend Windows 10. You could get Linux for free but it doesn't support as many games and programs as windows and is a but harder to use at first.
5. How much USD is that gtx 960? You might be able to get a newer card for the same price if the store has it.
6. You can resuse that ram if you get the CPU I recommended, or any CPU from 4th generation.

why haswell? skylake is better for pretty much the same prices:

Thanks for the replies!
1. I kinda want 3 TB as storage, since my old pc had 2 TB and I felt it wasn't enough.
2. Honestly, boot time isn't really an issue for me, is it alright if i just install Windows 10 in my 3 TB drive?
3. The GTX 960 is around 224.5 USD, but I have been wondering if I should get a GTX 970
4. After looking through ScrewySqrl's list, I wanted to change the list a bit:
CPU: Intel CORE I5-6600K (3.5G, 6M Cache, HD Graphic 630, Overclock unlock)
Motherboard: ASRock Z170 PRO4
Display Card: MSI GTX 970 GAMING 4GB GDDR5
RAM: 2X KLEVV DDR4 1x8GB Value Series 2133MHz CL15
PSU: Cooler Master CM Storm GX 550W 80Plus Bronze
Hard Drive: Toshiba 3TB 7200 RPM DT01ACA300

Including the case, this build has reached my budget. Is it a workable build?
Once again, thank you for your opinions. I look forward to your suggestions.:wahoo:

You are going to need a CPU cooler. I would recommend a crying h7 or if you want to get a cheap one a Hyper 212 evo. I assume you already have a copy of Windows, if you don't you forgot to put it, and yes you can put windows on your 3 TB hard drive. If the store is easy to check then could you see if they have an rx 480 or gtx 1060, I don't know if they are out in Hong Kong yet but it would be worth it to get one for a reasonable price.

Wow, those display cards are close to the same price as an GTX 970.
Here are the prices:

MSI Radeon™ RX 480 8GB GDDR5: 283.74 USD

Gigabyte Radeon™ RX 480 8GB GDDR5: 296.64 USD

MSI GeForce® GTX 1060 ARMOR OC 6GB GDDR5 : 322.45 USD
(There's also a MSI GeForce® GTX 1060 GAMING X 6GB GDDR5 that's 348.25 USD, is there a difference?)

Gigabyte GeForce® GTX 1060 WINDFORCE OC 6GB GDDR5: 309.54 USD

I'm looking forward to these more than the GTX970, which one is better?
If possible, please pick a cheaper card as I need to buy the CPU Cooler.
Oh, I have a copy of Windows 10 already :)
Thanks~

Edit: Just checked, picking a MSI GeForce® GTX 1060 ARMOR OC 6GB GDDR5 is going over budget. (I chose a Cooler Master Hyper 212X as the CPU Cooler). The budget for a display card is 283.87 USD. If possible, can you pick a GTX card for me? I prefer it a little more than RX :wahoo:.

Honestly if you want Nvidia then you will have to go with the 970 or 960 since the 1060 goes over budget. Is the 970 higher than the rx 480? If so I would really recommend the 480, it has a lower power draw and around the same performance in modern games but supports some game engines better than the 970, so it will be more future proof. Depends on what you want though, both would be a great choice for gaming, they both have their pros and cons.

Understood, I'll choose the RX 480. But I was wondering if it will overheat since it looks like it only has one fan
https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/AMD-Radeon-RX-480-8G.html#hero-overview

I honestly don't know much about the cooling system for new models but since there's no RX 480 Gaming X in my store yet is this one good enough?

Edit: So with all things considered, this is the list:
CPU: Intel CORE I5-6600K (3.5G, 6M Cache, HD Graphic 630, Overclock unlock)
Motherboard: ASRock Z170 PRO4
Display Card: MSI Radeon™ RX 480 8GB GDDR5
RAM: 2X KLEVV DDR4 1x8GB Value Series 2133MHz CL15
PSU: Cooler Master CM Storm GX 550W 80Plus Bronze
Hard Drive: Toshiba 3TB 7200 RPM DT01ACA300
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212X
Case: https://zh-hant.sharkoon.com/product/1759/DG7000#specs
(Chinese website, my friend recommended this)

If the rx 480s that have 2 or more fans haven't came out yet then it just won't be clocked as high. Just make sure you have good airflow and you should be OK on the overheating. Also I can't tell if the ram you put is 2 1x8 ram sticks or just 1x8 stick. If you are only going to get 8gb then I would recommend getting 2x4 rather than 1x8, and you could still upgrade in the future.

Thanks for the suggustion MnMWizard!
I'm going to buy two 1x8 GB RAM sticks since I'm going for 16 GB.
I guess I'm all set to start ordering the parts.:) Is there anything left to look for?

That is what I personally would do but he said he wanted more storage and didn't really care about boot times.
