Just been given my cousins laptop to repair.
His story goes "went to get a drink, came back and windows had a message "reverting back to previous version". He let this finish, restarted and now it's stuck on blue screen with Error Code 0xc0000225.

From what I know, this is to do with a failed windows startup.
This is currently still running on windows 8.1

I have windows 8 on a usb drive so I have been able to attempt a fix
I have tried the command prompt repair with no success.
Tried the startup repair tool in troubleshooting - got the error back Startup repair couldnt repair your PC. Log file=c:\windows\system32\logfiles\srt\srttrail.txt

Was just about to attempt a fresh install of windows 10 - when selecting a partition I see a silly amount (6 partitions!) I see a Windows partition but should I be cleaning up these partitions before trying to install windows 10?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can try these to fix error: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/the-drive-where-windows-is-installed-is-locked

if anything on laptop you want to save, can try this: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/use-ubuntu-live-cd-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/

If you doing clean install it will delete all those partitions anyway: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-windows-10-clean-install.html

if win 10 already been on PC, when you get to licence screen, press Skip and it should activate itself once installed.

Have a look at the memory clock in the bios in the memory configuration area this was the problem with mine. Try setting it a bit slower
