Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 can't detect GTX 960?

Hi.

I've recently upgraded my CPU to a FX6300 and so I needed a new motherboard for the AM3+ Socket to go with it - I decided on the Asus M5A78L-M/USB3.

I previously had a Gigabyte GA-F2A68HM-HD2 (AM2 Socket) in which my MSI NVIDIA GTX 960 Gaming 2 GB PCI-E Graphics Card worked perfectly fine. Had a few hiccups with drivers at points but got them sorted.

Now, I've reassembled the PC, replaced the old Motherboard/CPU with the new ones, placed the video card back in the PCI-E x16 slot and ensured three times that it's correctly connected to both the motherboard and the PCI-E connectors to the power supply, but no matter what I try, the motherboard will not detect the graphics card.

I also have a 750w power supply, so isn't a problem there. Tried 2 of the PCI-E connectors, neither worked.

I've tried:

  • Changing the bios setting 'Primary Video Controller' to all three of the other options, two of which gave me blue screens and one which loaded the onboard graphics for the motherboard.
    Restoring default bios settings.
Updating bios to the latest version: '2101'.
Fresh windows re-install twice (figured that would unlikely be the issue but went ahead anyway).
Installing the NVIDIA GTX 960 driver (when running through the 'System Requirements' install section, it just gave me the error 'You don't have a supported nvidia device').

I'm fairly sure windows updates wouldn't have anything to do with it, but they're still being installed.

I'm fairly new to building, but i've looked up issues similar to these for hours and haven't been able to find a resolution.

Yep monitors been plugged into the 960 and it just shows a black screen (Monitor doesn't pick it up). Only works with the monitors plugged into the motherboard :/

I have exactly the same issue with the same board and my GTX1060. I cant get motherboard to detect it and monitor only works when I plug to motherboard. Don't suppose you managed to get it to work? Seems like it might be a board compatibility issue.

Nope sorry. Ended up returning the board and sticking with the current cpu for now.

Yeah turns out the card I had was faulty, returned and the replacement 1060 worked fine in the MB!
