GTX 750ti (GV-N75TOC-2GL) 235w psu (H235p-00)

Solution
Think I found another solution https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRMpWVoIwmM

Update: I bought the X3460, and it works great. Also the GTX 750ti works wonders when you have no more than 235w, but I bought the "Dell Optiplex GX520 GX620 755, which has 275W", felt more comfortable with that. (only needed a ATX Power Supply 24 Pin to Mini 24 Pin Cable)

The i5-650 did bottleneck the 750ti a little.
But for gaming I think the i5 would be sufficient enough,

A much better idea would be to simply buy a different case and put everything into that. Then you can get whatever power supply you want and whatever GPU you want, not be restricted to crappy Dell Optiplex compatible parts. And you can keep re-using the case on your next build if you want.

Just be sure to check that your motherboard is a regular form factor that will fit any case. Occasionally OEM machines will use some funky proprietary format that means you can't do much with them.

I see, was just curious since Nvidia has 300w minimum for almost all their gpus...
and 750ti is a 60W Graphics Card, and the motherboard will never allow it to draw more than 75W or so thorugh the PCIe slot?

Thats why I thought it just might work :p

And I must go as low as GT 640 or something to be able to use this 235w PSU if I follow them nvidia charts

I've been considering the GT 730 card too, but I think that has the same issue too with min 300w psu

You're right about the PCIe slot only supplying 75 watts. I still wouldn't chance any standalone GPU on a 235W power supply.

Your fundamental issue is that being limited to a crappy power supply means you're limited to crappy video cards. So in order to do very well, your best bet is still to ditch that case.

its only gonna be used as a HTPC, so I could settle for a GT 640 card, I just thought that since the GT 750ti card I found does not require that extra 6pin power cable that it would be sufficient with just power for the PCIe :/

I might occationally stream games from my gaming rig via Steam or nvdia shield

What if I get that 275w psu for Ebay, think thats about the largest thing I can cram into it without having to get another case and psu
