I just moved to CenturyLink and they forced me to purchase router (Zyxel c1100z). It sends a crummy signal and wirelessly I am getting about 5 of the 40mb down I am paying for. I have a second one of these routers, should I set it up as a wireless extender? Is that easy to do? Can someone give me a quick walkthrough of how to configure the second router?

Unless you mean you want to use the router as a AP then there are a bunch of post that show how to use your router as a AP. If you want to use it as a wireless repeater then you likely can't. That is a special feature few routers have especially dsl ones.

I have read in a few places that it does not need to be wired AP and I can use a second router as a repeater or extender/repeater. Is anyone familiar with this process and if my specific modem/router can work for this?

As a secondary measure, can anyone recommend a great router (not super expensive) I can connect to my crappy ZYXEL to get a wider and stronger signal to my home wireless devices?
