Assuming your OS is up to date with the Anniversary release, 1607...
Read this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12440/windows-10-activation
You may have to reinstall with the new hardware, but you can activate it no problem.

Hi,

About reinstalling windows & format SSD, just boot normally from the USB and I believe there will be an option that will ask you to select disk that you want to install on and format it.

Regards,

So do i just put the usb with the installation media in the computer and it works? Even with the ssd wiped it recognizes my ssd and lets me install windows 10? I heard things about something called an iso but do i need that?

If you have a USB with the install on it, ignore what anyone says about an ISO.

So with the new motherboard and cpu installed when i boot up it will give me the option to format? I heard that if i plug my ssd into the new motherboard without doing something prior it can lead to a blue screen. Do i have to do anything prior?

What is your current mobo and CPU?
What is the mobo and CPU you want to replace it with?
Sounds like you may need to purchase a new license of Windows.
The SSD is not the problem here.
And what is your SSD model and specification?

There is a possibility that your current install will work with the new hardware.
The same possibility exists that it will require a clean install.

Prepare for if it needs a new install, be thankful if it does not.

If it fails, that is when you boot up from your USB, and do a clean install on the SSD.

And how do i go about doing a clean install?

You need a new license of Windows 10 for the new motherboard or else it won't activate since the old license is tied to the old motherboard.

So is the activation tied to my mobo?

As of release 1607, released last week, you can link that install to a Microsoft account, instead of to the actual hardware.
You must do this before you change the hardware.

It tells you how the whole activation thing has changed in the last week.
Previously, a hardware change often meant a whole new OS license.
Today, not so much.

The license belongs to you, not to the hardware.

Specifically, this:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/20530/windows-10-reactivating-after-hardware-change
Reactivating Windows 10 after a hardware change

1. Prepare for if you need to do a full reinstall.
This means knowing all your username/passwords
Serial numbers for any other software.
Have all of your install files handy
Have all of your hardware drivers on a USB stick or DVD

2. As the links from MS above, link your current OS install with a Microsoft account

3. Swap the hardware

4. See if it boots up
If it does, great. Proceed to the activation

If it does not boot up properly, this is when you look into a full reinstall of the OS.
