Hi guys,

I'm a student and it's been a while since I bought my computer. I'm looking to buy some new parts in order to play games like Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3 that I bought. I know for sure I need to change my graphic card, but I'm not sure for CPU or else. Like everyone, I'd like to play 1080p and 60 FPS, but not sure if it's possible with my current set up with a 500$ budget. Anyway, here's what I currently own:

Processor: AMD FX™-4100 Quad-Core 3.60GHz
Windows 10 Family 64 bits
Ram 8 Go
GPU: GeForce GTX 550Ti
Monitor: Acer S232HL http://www.cnet.com/products/acer-s232hl-abid/specs/
Power Supply: Cooler Master Elite Power 500W (RS-500-PSAR-I3)

Thanks for your help, I'm starting to understand all of this (my friend build this set up for me about 4-5 years ago).

Cheers!

To get good results, you are better off selling your system and adding that to the $500 then getting an all new build with an Intel i5-6500 CPU, RX470 video card for a decent mid-range setup. You should be able to get maybe $250 for your setup as it is, that is enough to get the parts for a new setup with another $500.

Your CPU, gpu and power supply need updating. Any decent gpu you put with that FX4 will be held back.

Those games need really something like an rx480 for 1080p60. Fallout hammers the cpu.

You could drop in a 480 and new psu, and maybe pick up a fx8 used to keep you going. Otherwise looking at new build.

I say 480 rather than 1060 as generally cheaper and almost as fast

Hello,

Thanks for the fast answer.

So I guess you're talking something like these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-FX-8320E-Vishera-8-Core-3-2GHz-4-0GHz-Turbo-Socket-AM3-95W-FD832EWMHKBOX-/152176884272?hash=item236e72fa30:g:0x4AAOSwFNZW0vYn

And what wattage do I need for Power Supply, I'm a bit lost :p

Thanks again!

Yes. BUT I can't recommend going the fx8 route as it woukd be better to invest in an intel based system. The am3+ socket is dead and the fx8 is outperformed by skylake i3 now.

But I guess if you didn't want to save any further, it may not be a bad idea, just know what you are investing in!

I'd recommend i3 6100, 8gb ddr4, rx480 and a better psu ideally, but will be over budget.

As for psu, that particular model is poor quality. A quality 500w unit should be fine, something from EVGA or seasonic.
