Hi There,

I've just bought an MSI H81M-E34 mobo brand new and I am trying to use a second hand i3-4160 with a 300w PSU.

I've put it all together but when I power on I cant get any video from the HDMI, VGA or DVI.

Any idea's where to start?

Solution
It may not be the CPU, you may just need to flash the BIOS for it to work with a Haswell Refresh CPU. You would need to borrow an older CPU from someone to do this or take it to a shop and have them do it.
Try resetting the CMOS by unplugging the PSU, removing the CMOS battery and then holding the power button for a minute or two. Next I would double check that all connectors are securely plugged in. If still no luck, test the system outside the case using only one stick of RAM in each slot, both sticks. Also check that you have no bent pins in the CPU socket.
