I've recently been trying to overclock my phenom II 955 be but to little to no avail only reaching 3.6 w/o a bluescreen i've seen people achieve way better but anytime i try to do anything i tend to fail and just wound sitting next to my pc resetting with jcmos :\. This is my actual first attempt at overclocking i've tried to copy other's setting but idk what im doing wrong and I suck at doing it via bios apparently since i get bluescreen from doing it there too. I'm using AMD overdrive atm.

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE
My motherboard is a : Biostar TA870u3+
and a good ole Hyper 212 evo to keep err cool
Even my graphics card overclocking usually comes to failure ( Radeon 7950 3gb dual-x boost addition from sapphire )

Will someone please give me the guidance I need xd

Hi,

This is why I am often against overclocking. Newbies (like you) seem to think they can get what some guy on YouTube got. Well, all CPU's are different and some have bad chips, some have good. By this I mean some can be overclocked really high, like 4.2GHZ, and some can barely get passed stock speeds.

If you get a BSOD it is usually because the voltage is either:

a) too high (more likeley too low)
b) too low (most likely)

So try increasing the voltage by a bit. What voltage are you running at?

EDIT: Biostar boards really are junk, no offence. That is a signifcant factor. I'd be looking at getting a better board from Gigabyte or ASUS, more likely a new PC altoghether.

Trust me im eventually going to change a lot in this build im just seeing what I can do for the time being. Also 1.4 for the voltage. Also i know its not 100% that ill get the same performance ( or any for that matter ) as what you would call SOME guy on YouTube i know all chips aren't the same but that's not the point i'm trying to teach myself so try to take it easy. I literally almost never overclock just because I know i tend to fail that's why i came looking for help.

Managed to get it to 3.8 with the 1.5 haven't tried to push it up passed 3.8 might try when im getting my new parts but till then this is fine.

Now I'm working with my graphics card. Whenever i apply the settings when i go ingame it never even reaches them it just stays exactly 500mhz gpu clock and 1250 for mem clock while idle and then while gaming gpu clock just moves up to 825 and sits there.

right now i got the overclock settings to 1150 for Core and 1400 for Mem and power limit +20. But like i said ingame it justs gives me 825 and 1250.

Also thanks for the help with the CPU

Yes im using a utility MSI afterburner. Pretty sure i can't overclock from bios seeing it gives no option for that. But like i said when i hop ingame even after I set the clock speeds it just remains at 825 and 1250

Edit: apparently dota recognizes it seeing it crashes the graphics driver like 10 seconds into it I guess ill work with that as my tool to see if im stable
