I've had a wireless adapter for a while now, but I've always had an overheating it problem, or it will disconnect randomly whenever i do anything taxing on the network. So i thought i'd get an Ethernet cable. Thing is i dont know anything about that, and my pc is about 70 ft away from my router, i was just going to go ahead and pick up a 100ft Ethernet cable. So i just need to know what ethernet cable to get, whats going to be better then my current adapter and if ill get the ok speeds even though its going 100ft from my pc.

Solution
You need to get a Cat 5e or better cable.
Cat 6 and Cat 6a are fine but not needed.
Longer cables are often advertised as Patch Panel Cables, those are the same thing and will work perfectly fine.
The main thing to watch out for is cooper clad aluminum cables....ie CCA. You will find huge number of people selling the crap even on amazon.

These cables can never be certified ethernet cable because the wires must be solid copper to pass certification. People have lots of issues with this type of cable.

Make sure the cable says it is solid copper but after that you can get cat5e or cat6 if it happens to be cheaper.

thanks for the tip, out of curiosity what is stranded copper patch cord? and is it the same as solid?

I think the specification says you must use solid in walls and stranded is just for the patch cable between the wall jacks/ patch panels and the equipment.

I forget if there is a actual limit on the length when you use stranded patch cables. They are quite a bit more expensive. I think the only advantage is they are more flexible and move easier. I tend to always buy solid ones because I am cheap.
