I've been having this problem from time to time but every time it starts i cant quite figure out why. Today it happened as i was playing Battlefield 4 and the random freezing/ticking didn't stop until i restarted my PC. After continuous attempts to close down every unnecessary application i didn't even have to start Battlefield 4 in order for the ticking to start again. At first i suspected it was my old HDD so i unplugged it to see if anything changed, nothing did. After that i thought maybe its related to my PC accessing the internet via my PCI-E WiFi card (I use my smartphone's internet for PC) but going offline didn't fix the problem either.

Before i went to sleep and wrote this i reinstalled whole windows to see if it was a misbehaving app or something wrong with windows. The ticking continued at random but now i had no way of ending it (Before, restarting PC fixed it until it someday decided to come back) I hadn't changed a thing on my PC from the day before when everything worked fine, including Battlefield 4.

So in conclusion I'm at a total loss. I can only suspect its hardware related but i don't exactly have parts to change around nor' the money to go around buying new parts that "i suspect" to be the culprit so I'm asking here for help and guidance.

At the time of finishing writing this, the ticking had stopped but i hadn't changed anything.

The ticking affects the whole pc as in everything freezes for like 1/5 of a second or less.

Please ask for any info you might need. Its been a while since I've had to write one of these so I'm including my specs here:

OS: Windows 10 pro 64-bit
Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Ranger
CPU: Intel i7 4790k (no overclock)
GPU: MSI GTX 970 4GB (only factory OC)
PSU: Corsair CX750 (4 Years old, possible source?)
RAM: 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz (9-9-9-24) (very old, +5 years)
Storage: Samsung 840 evo (120GB)
Storage2: Seagate Barracuda 2TB
Storage3: Seagate Barracude 1TB (waaay old, +5 years)

Peripherals:
Logitech g600
Corsair K95 RGB
HyperX Cloud 2 Headset
Some cheap logitech 2.1 speaker set

I have a new GPU, SSD and RAM ordered as just new upgrades but i was considering a new PSU as i haven't heard the best things about my current PSU.

As stated earlier i wont be able to post additional answers until tomorrow (EU)
